Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is my Tree Protected?

It might be! You might live within a Conservation Area or your specific tree could be protected by a tree preservation order (TPO). Its easy to find out, simply call your local council planning dept and they should be able to confirm over the phone. We will also check this as part of your quotation.

  • When is the right time to work on my Tree?

Well that really depends on the species of tree. Non blooming Trees and Shrubs should be pruned in late winter when fully dormant whilst Spring blooming Trees and Shrubs should be pruned immediately after they bloom. We are happy to advise on this if you are unsure!

  • Will I be left with lots of mess?

No! We pride ourselves in our tidiness. Our team of groundsmen ensure that the site is fully brushed and raked once the job is completed. However, should you wish, logs and wood chip can remain on site for your own use.

  • Are you fully qualified?

Yes! We are very proud of our team and our skill base. All staff are NPTC qualified and can show certificates on request. We also have years of combined experience so be assured that you are in safe hands.

  • Are you insured?

Yes we have Arborist Specific Public Liability and Employers Liability Insurance up to £10,000,0000

  • Do you provide free quotes?

Yes, our quotations are free of charge and are usually emailed to you immediately after our visit. There is no obligation to have the work completed.

  • What can I do about neighbours overhanging tree branches?

Legally you have the right to cut back branches to your boundary. You cannot however trespass on a neighbour’s property, or climb the tree without their permission. The tree may also be covered by a TPO or Conservation area so it is always advisable to get the advice of an expert and speak to your neighbour first! Please get in touch for more info.

  • What is “nesting season” and can tree work be carried out at this time?

Nesting season is officially from February to August with the busiest time for the majority of nesting birds is from 1st March to 31st July, obviously this can vary from year to year depending on the weather!

The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 recommended that contractors should aim to avoid impact to nesting birds during this time.

However, dangerous trees may be worked on during this time and Ecologists may be employed to grant permission to larger scale jobs if necessary.

We would always carry out a full inspection before commencing any work during this period.

  • Will be left with a stump after felling my tree?

Yes. If your tree is felled, we will cut it as low to the ground as our chain saw allows (without blunting the blades!). The stump can be treated to kill the remaining roots or we can grind out the stump with specialist machinery for an additional charge.

  • How do I know if a tree is damaging my property?

Signs can include cracking of the mortar and brickwork. Driveways may lift under root growth and branches can grow into facias and gutters causing flooding. The severity of damage can be anything from cosmetic to structural, so it is always worth a visit from a professional to establish the cause and extent of the damage.

  • Can you carry out emergency tree work?

Yes, we are happy to assist in all kinds of tree related incident. We will always try our best to help in any scenario.

  • Do you need council permission?

As long as your tree isn’t protected by a Preservation Order and you are not in a Conservation area, then you do not need Council Permission. It is very important to check first though! We can assist with this so feel free to get in touch.

  • I have a narrow access to my tree, is this a problem?

We normally find a solution for narrow access and we can use a range of equipment to cope with small areas. We love a challenge!

  • Where does the stump go?

Stump grinding effectively mulches up the stump left after felling to below ground level. It is especially useful if you are wishing to lawn, or replant the site of a felled tree. Our machine will be able to grind up the stump to variable depths as required.

  • How can we get a free quote?

You can get a free quote by giving us a call on 01530 817220 or 01332 865775 or filling out one of the get in touch forms on the website
